Sports massage is not just for the sporting people, but for anyone! It can help relieve and relax tightened or injured muscles for all different types of people. Techniques such as MET (muscular energy techniques), STR (soft tissue release), myofascial release, frictions and trigger point therapy along with various strokes are used to manipulate the tissues, thus aiding quicker recovery and reduced pain. This treatment is a deep tissue treatment, so expect the massage to be painful, with after effects of sore muscles, tenderness and bruising. Sports Massage for Injury Sports massage has been used for many years to aid with muscular- skeletal injury recovery on acute, subacute and chronic injuries. The deep tissue sports massage will aim to reduce new or old scar tissue surrounding the effected area, along with promoting blood and nutrients. This will help with increasing recovery time, reduce pain and reduce the risk of a reoccurring injury. Your treatment will be tailored to suite your injury severity, stage of healing and effected areas meaning you may need a course of treatments. Your therapist may also use other treatment modalities along with specific rehabilitation exercises to aid your recovery. Maintenance Sports Massage Many people have regular sports massage (every 2 to 4 weeks) to help with general tightness, pain and fatigued muscles. The deep massage can help with pain relief and increase mobility and flexibility. This treatment is great if you exercise regularly, have a physically demanding job or even if you have an office-based job. Repetitive movements, or poor posture due to lifestyle can increase the risk of injury, tightness, tension and knots. Pre-event & Post-event Sports Massage Pre-event sports massage is used before a sporting event. The main purpose is to help increase blood circulation, warm up the tissues and increase flexibility. This treatment aims to stimulate blood flow, meaning stokes will be quick, superficial and pain free leaving you ready for your sporting activity. Post-event sports massage aims to help drainage of lactic acid and bi-products from excises from the muscles. It also helps relax the muscles to reduce the risk of Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and cramps, whilst increase blood and nutrients back to tired and muscles. This treatment is still superficial, however is slower then a pre-event massage so is more relaxing Benefits: • Increase muscular flexibility • Increase joint range of movement • Aids recovery from injuries • Increase circulation • Releases endorphin's • Reduces muscle tension and knots • Helps with postural faults • Aids with lactic acid and waste drainage • Recover and repair soft tissue injuries |
